Transport

Being a rural village, Althorne is very fortunate to have relatively good public transport links.

Although not a member of the Parish Council, Mrs. Ursula Benjafield represents the village on all the train and bus customer liaison groups related to Althorne and makes regular reports to the Parish Council and in the Althorne Village News.

Thanks to a grant from the RCCE ( Rural Community Council of Essex), there is a number of information racks in the lobby of the Village Hall containing transport timetables and information relating to our village and beyond.

Ursula can be contacted via the parish office by e-mail or telephone message.

Click on the tabs on the left to get full details of local services.

ALTHORNE STATION

At last the fence is finally repaired and looks good.  All we need now is to get the car park surface evened out.

TRAINS NOT HOOTING AT CLIFFORDS FARM CROSSING

There has been continual reports of train drivers not sounding their horn at this crossing which is extremely dangerous because it is on a slight bend and the trains are very quiet.  The best solution to this problem seems to be instant action when you are at the crossing: there is a telephone both sides of the line and if the train does not hoot, pick up the receiver and report it immediately.  Network Rail are very sensitive to potential accidents on crossings.
