Education

Althorne does not have any state run schools in the village. Summerhill Pre-School, which is a private run school, hire the Parish Hall weekday mornings during normal school days.

At one time there was a state primary school on the borders of Mayland and Althorne, which served both communities. However, due to falling numbers of children from Althorne and increasing numbers form Mayland and Maylandsea, (as a result of new housing developments in those areas), a new school was opened in Maylandsea in 1990. The old school has since been converted into a private dwelling.
