Althorne Railway Station

is fortunate to have a railway station on the Crouch Valley Line, with
regular train services to London Liverpool Street, a distance of 40.3 miles from
Althorne Station. The fast commuter trains do the journey in one hour. Rail
services are operated by 'National Express East Anglia' (part of the National Express Group)
who have held the franchise since it took over from First Great Eastern
on 1st April 2004, the date when all the operators in East Anglia were merged into
one new franchise. The branch line forms Network Rail route EA 1060. When the National Express group took over the franchise the name of the operating company within the group was 'one'. However, on February 27th 2008 'one' railway was renamed 'National Express East Anglia'. For details of Althorne Station facilities click here. The
Crouch Valley Line is a branch line running 16.5 miles from Southminster to
Wickford. Stations on the branch line are:
Regular electricity powered trains run on
the line, which include through trains to London Liverpool Street at busy
periods. The line was also used to transport nuclear waste from the nearby
Bradwell nuclear power station to other parts of the country until the decommissioning
