Emergency Planning

Althorne Parish Council has two Emergency Planning Co-ordinators who work closely with the Maldon District Council, Chelmsford Borough Council and Essex County Council emergency teams, to develop local community emergency plans to provide the first line of assistance and help to the local community in the event of an emergency.

Without doubt the greatest risk, due to its coastal location, is the risk of flooding.

The map below shows the areas most at risk, which is all the properties south of the railway line and a little beyond.

There is a great deal of information on the web concerning what to do in the event of emergencies and how you can prepare for such an event. Hyperlinks to the important local and national sites are shown below.

If you think you're at risk, phone the Flood Line on 0845 988 1188 or visit www.environment-agency.gov.uk/floodline

Chelmsford Borough Council and Maldon District Council have a joint emergency information website applicable to their areas.

In August 2004 Central Government sent a booklet titled 'Preparing for Emergencies - What you need to know' to every home in the UK, . The booklet contains practical advice on the steps you can take to help yourself and your family in the event of an emergency.

The Preparing for Emergencies website accompanies the booklet and provides online advice.
