The Dengie Connection

From Monday April 2nd 2007 the Dengie Peninsular has a new bus service provider and new timetables.

Due to the ending of Government funding, the  Dengie Village Link services A, B, C, D, & E and Malbus 1, were withdrawn on Saturday March 31st 2007.

The service was replaced by a new network of routes provided by Stephenson’s of Essex with funding from Essex County Council. The new service is called The Dengie Connection. The services that run through Althorne are the D3 and D5

The 'Dengie Connection' Stephenson's buses serve areas in the Dengie that are not serviced by First Bus. They also acts as feeder buses for the First bus services to Maldon and Chelmsford.

Commuter Bus

Stephensons run a commuter bus serving  Althorne Railway Station.

Essex concessionary passes are accepted for free travel on all Stephenson Buses.

Maldon and Chelmsford

First Bus operate the through bus service to Maldon and Chelmsford where there is access to other services that serve the county and other destinations.

Unfortunately First Bus removed the 31X bus service from the upper part of Althorne on 6th December 2009, despite protests from the Parish Council and local users. Essex County Council has organised a subsidised service operated by Viking

The 31B and 31X First bus services serve Althorne. These services run from Burnham-on-Crouch  to Chelmsford and return. Click this link for the Traveline time tables for these services.

Journey time from Althorne is about 21 minutes to Maldon, and about 51 minutes to Chelmsford.

There are no bus services through Althorne on Sundays. The nearest bus to get to Maldon and Chelmsford on Sundays is the number 31 from Latchingdon. The link to the Traveline time table above also shows the times for this service.

With the exception of the 47 service the journey time to Broomfield Hospital is about 12 minutes. The 47 service takes about 20 minutes.
